I was asked this question again this week! Why do some people act like my life must be really strange since I've quit eating meat? Do some people sit down and eat 100% meat meals? Not that I've heard of! The answer is... just about everything else!
This is where I am currently with my thoughts/journey to become as vegan and as healthy as possible:
*No meats, or anything containing a meat derivitive (lard, gelatin, etc.) This includes fish.
*I don't feel that "humane" hunting is as bad as factory farming due to the fact that animals live a natural lifestyle and are killed instantly without being aware of what has happened. I come from, and married into, a family very big into hunting deer and turkey. I'll blog about what I mean by "humane" hunting later.
*No direct milk or eggs, although I still eat an occasional cookie or use regular butter when eating out. At home I use replacements for these products.
*Almost no salt and very little sugar.... I love these two things but am weaning my taste buds off of wanting them. It is much easier than I would have guessed! Yesterday I baked a potato drenched in just a little bit of EVOO and ate it plain... the oil gave it just enough flavor to still be absolutely yummy!*No supporting of rodeos, backyard breeders, dog & horse racing, companies that conduct animal testing, or anything else I perceieve as animal cruelty.
I am far from where I feel I need to be, but I have really come a LONG way in a short period of time. I keep improving my choices daily, though!
