Sweet Music...

I am fascinated by great electric and acoustic guitar players, and have often joked that my current "crush" is whoever is on stage at the moment playing guitar and singing. I have never been one to listen to a song because I love its beat (not that I don't appreciate that talent as well), but I will replay a song for hours if it has a killer guitar solo. Some of my favorite bands are my favorite simply because of their lead guitarist.

Right on up there with lead guitarists, in my book, are the frontmen of the group. There are several slightly raspy singers that I love to listen to no matter what is coming out of their mouth. This is definitely one of the sexiest talents on the planet.

But, the truly best way to get me hooked on a song is by the lyrics. I absolutely love really listening to lyrics, and if I've heard the song at least twice, you can bet that I have already memorized them. Great lyricists are my favorite artists, and all of my favorite songs have great lyrics. It is just absolutely necessary.

Give me an artist talented in all three categories, and I am almost in love.

My definition of great lyrics are either ones that I can personally relate to and that bring me back to a specific moment in my life, or ones that are just obviously well-crafted and make me really think.

My "lyrics for thought" for today are in my opinion some of the very best given to us by Axl Rose, but Slash's memorable guitar solo in this song is definitely the best part. Make sure you listen to the full version...

If we could take the time to lay it on the line
I could rest my head just knowin' that you were mine,

All mine
So if you want to love me, then darlin' don't refrain
Or I'll just end up walkin' in the cold November rain
.....
And when your fears subside and shadows still remain
I know that you can love me when there's

no one left to blame
So never mind the darkness; we still can find a way
'Cause nothin' lasts forever, even cold November rain

-Guns N' Roses
"November Rain"

Fun Fact: The original version was 25 minutes long, and the song was edited down to 8:59. It is the longest ever Top 10 hit and contains the longest guitar solo in a Top 10 single - Slash actually plays 2 guitar solos in the song.

I gotta say, I actually heard the long version of this song on the radio, today! I couldn't believe it.

If you count the ending, it almost seems like it has 3 solos, but nonetheless. All the more Slash, the better.
