Reid Turned 1!

Our little man has already turned one year old and it is bittersweet. We're one year closer to getting to know the young man he will become, but it is a difficult reminder of how quickly time flies and how precious our time with him is! Several times throughout each day I stop and ask myself, "Do I have to do this right now, or can I stop and spend time with Reid instead?" and evaluate the situation based on that..... so many things can wait, but my child is growing up so quickly that spending time with him cannot wait.

The saying, "Cooking and cleaning can wait 'til tomorrow, for babies grow up I've learned to my sorrow. So settle down cobwebs, dust go to sleep- I'm rocking my baby, and babies don't keep" is one of my favorites because it is so true. (I want to point out that although I love spending time with Reid first and foremost, I also think it's very important to keep our house clean enough for him to roam around safely! :)

I took petit fours and party hats to Reid's daycare class during their snack time on the day of his actual birthday. The kids all seemed to love it and I think Reid had fun. He got a miniature cupcake at home later that evening.

The Saturday after his birthday, we threw him a party at our house and invited all of his family and most of our friends that have small children.

Reid really seemed to get the fact that the party was all for him and he had a great time! His party was train themed (we used a printable/customizable party pattern by Parties by Hardie) and everything from his "big" gift from us, to the decorations, to the children's activities reflected that. My husband says I went a little overboard considering that Reid won't remember this party, but he will have pictures to look back on and I want him to see how special his birthday was to his parents. One of the things I want to try to do as a mother is make my children's childhoods as great as they can be, and a fun birthday party is just one way I thought of to do that. This was my first children's birthday party to throw but I am quite proud of myself and am already thinking about what we can do to step it up for next year!
